PNP: Probe cop linked to the Naguilian shabu lab

LA UNION, Philippines - Philippine National Police Director General Avelino Razon said Tuesday heads will roll after a shabu laboratory was discovered early this month in a remote village in Naguilian, La Union.

Razon, who inaugurated the PNP Cordillera firing range Tuesday, said he would investigate a police superintendent for allegedly "protecting" the laboratory in Bimmotobot village.

"He would have to answer the allegations as well as the other PNP personnel involved in this shabu lab," Razon said in Filipino.

"We will not stop in our campaign against illegal drugs," he said.

The police official was implicated by a caretaker of the Bimmotobot shabu lab in a compound in the village. During interrogation, the caretaker also named a certain George Cordero as the owner of the property.

Anti-narcotics police agents recovered shabu ingredients from the 11-hectare area during the raid. They also seized truckloads of ingredients for making the drug.

Police said the shabu that could have been manufactured at the lab may reach P1 trillion.

The Task Force Bimmotobot, headed by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Ilocos Chief Jane Aunzo, said that they are also looking into the possibility that Chinese businessmen were behind the operation of the shabu lab. Police believe the facility started manufacturing the drug in May.

Meanwhile, Razon said that more firing ranges should be built by the PNP to hone the skills of police officers.

"Firearms proficiency is needed not only to upgrade the skills but also to boost their morale," Razon said.
