Pagasa: SLPA to bring rains to Visayas, Mindanao, Bicol

MANILA, Philippines - A shallow low-pressure area (SLPA) off Northern Mindanao threatens to bring rains to Visayas, Mindanao and Bicol Region, state weather forecasters said Thursday.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the SLPA was estimated at 540 km east of Northern Mindanao as of 4 a.m.

It said the SLPA was embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone

(ITCZ) affecting Visayas and Mindanao.

Light to moderate southwesterly surface windflow is prevailing over the western section of Luzon, it added.

"Visayas, Mindanao and Bicol region will experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms. Rest of the country will have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms," it said in its 5 a.m. bulletin.

Light to moderate winds blowing from the southwest would prevail over the western section of Luzon, Pagasa said.

Elsewhere, winds would be light to moderate blowing from the southwest and southeast would prevail and the coastal waters throughout the archipelago would be slight to moderate except during thunderstorms. - GMANews.TV
