MANILA, Philippines A taxi driver tried to resist two robbers and got his neck slashed with a knife early Thursday morning in Las Piñas. Cabbie Roger Pana, 39, is now in critical condition at Las Piñas Doctors Hospital.
According to police, the two men hailed Pana, who drives an E.V. Basa taxi, at around 1:30 a.m. on Dimasalang Street in Sampaloc, Manila, and told the driver to take them to CAA Road in Las Piñas.
On reaching their destination, the men told Pana that they had forgotten their wallets and they would have to take them back to Dimasalang.
But when they got to Sampaguita Street along CAA, they declared a holdup and forced the cabbie to pull over in a dark alley.
Pana fought back, police said, prompting one of the robbers to slash his neck. The robbers took his money and fled, leaving him for dead.
