BUTUAN CITY, Philippines - A soldier was wounded in an ambush staged by suspected New People's Army (NPA) rebels in La Paz town, Agusan del Sur last Sunday.
Belated reports reaching the Caraga Police Regional Office here identified the lone casualty as 1Lt. Christian Agonos who was on board a military vehicle along with other members of the Army's 26th Infantry Division when they were fired upon at the vicinity opf Purok 9, Brgy. Osmeña.
The report said the government troops were on their way to the Army headquarters in Sitio Tagyago, Brgy. Osmeña when four suspected rebels waylaid them.
The first volley of gunfire hit Agonos. The military vehicle managed to seek cover, and troops engaged the attackers.
After a brief gunfight, the suspected NPA rebels "scampered to unknown directions," the police report said. - GMANews.TV
