MANILA, Philippines - Classes in all levels in the National Capital Region (NCR) will resume Thursday as typhoon Karen continues to move out of the country, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) announced Wednesday night.
We expect some rains in Metro Manila tomorrow but less frequent as compared to this morning, NDCC deputy administrator Anthony Golez said.
Heavy rains, however, are expected to batter Northern Luzon while Western Luzon will experience monsoon rains.
Golez said typhoon Karen is expected to leave the country Thursday afternoon.
Latest figure from the Office of Civil Defense showed five people have been killed while one was missing as a result of typhoon Karen.
All of the fatalities were victims of mud- and landslides in Northern Luzon.
Wednesdays heavy rains in Metro Manila caused 100 families in a Gawad Kalinga community in Quezon City to flee their homes in the morning due to a collapsed dike in Bagong Silangan village.
The residents, however, were able to return home about 1 p.m., according to police Sr. Insp. Luis Fernandez, commander of a community police precinct in Bagong Silangan. - with Mark Merueñas, GMANews.TV
