Pasay cops nab 30 youths with switchblades

MANILA, Philippines - Pasay police arrested Tuesday night at least 30 youths armed with switchblades after catching the students loitering in front of a university in the city.

DZBB’s Lito Laparan reported early Wednesday that many of the youths are students in other schools in the city, and may have been part of a local fraternity.

A team from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit picked up the students, according to Pasay City police chief Sr. Supt. Marietto Valerio.

Valerio said they received a request for assistance from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasay, whose officials observed the youths gathering in front of its gate Tuesday afternoon.

The university officials said the youths were "acting suspiciously"

and voiced fears for the safety of the university's students.

Police eventually released the youths to the custody of their respective parents after a record check. - GMANews.TV
