MANILA, Philippines - Typhoon "Karen" (international code name Nuri) is now over the South China Sea and continues to move farther away from Philippine territory, state weather forecasters said Thursday afternoon.
But the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said "Karen" will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon and bring occasional rains over the western sections of Northern and Central Luzon.
In its final bulletin on the typhoon, Pagasa said "Karen" was about 430 kms northwest of Laoag City as of 4 p.m., packing maximum sustained winds of 140 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph.
"Karen" was moving west-northwest at 17 kph and is expected to be 750 kms northwest of Laoag City or in the vicinity of Hong Kong by Friday afternoon.
No public storm warning signals are raised
