One dead in violent Marikina street robbery

Motorcycle-riding gunmen shot and killed an auto shop employee after withdrawing money from a bank in Marikina City, Tuesday morning.

Killed was Jose Canlas, driver of a multi-cab owned by an auto air-con shop in Marikina City. He died of three gunshot wounds to the chest.

Police said Canlas and a co-worker identified as Maritess Llabanes had just came out a United Coconut Planters Bank branch when the motorcycle-riding gunmen approached them.

Llabanes told the police that the armed robbers fired shots at them and ordered Canlas to stop the multi-cab. She said the gunmen killed the driver before fleeing.

The robbers carted away Llabanes's bag, which contained P7,000 cash and a cellular phone.

The police have yet to identify the robbers.
