A company of 6th Regional Mobile Group (RMG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) left Negros Occidental to help in efforts to restore peace and order in North Cotabato.
Chief Superintendent Isagani Cuevas, Western Visayas police chief, confirmed the deployment of more or less 86 RMG troopers from the province pursuant to an order from national police headquarters in Camp Crame Saturday.
Cuevas said the reinforcements are stationed in Pigcauayan, North Cotabato.
Cuevas explained that the RMG policemen from Negros Occidental’s primary mission is to reinforce law enforcers to ensure that peace and order is maintained even if there are skirmishes between Army soldiers and members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front in some parts of Cotabato.
Cuevas stressed however that RMG troopers can assist the military when the need arises because they have also been well-trained for counter-insurgency operations.
The order from Camp Crame did not specify however until when the policemen from the province would stay in North Cotabato.
Cuevas said higher police headquarters can issue another order if additional troops would need to be deployed in Mindanao.
