Military units in Basilan province remained on a high alert status after receiving information that members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) are planning to attack military camps.
Rear Admiral Emilio Marayag Jr., who oversees military operations in Basilan, said they received intelligence reports that the MILF are planning to conduct more atrocities in the province by taking over military camps and detachments.
Marayag said the plan is the MILF's way of avenging its failed occupation of a village in Tipo-Tipo town on Monday.
He said the military's land and water assets have been put in place to block possible attacks by the Moro fighters.
On Monday afternoon, the military was able to foil the MILF's attempt to takeover a portion of Tipo-Tipo town proper.
A Marine soldier was killed and four others, including a civilian volunteer, were wounded in the clash.
