2 dead, 18 injured in grenade explosion in Kalinga

Two persons were killed while 18 others were injured when a grenade explosion hit a small carnival in Tabuk City, Kalinga

Victim Joel Tabanganay died instantly during the explosion that took place past 11 a.m. Another victim, identified as Redentor Bayangan, died while being treated at a nearby hospital.

Those injured were identified as Rodrigo Adawan, Franklin Tuddao, Tyson Baluwang, Joel Bayangan, William Degay, Geoffrey Liagao, Joel Manacnis, Aldwin Ayanco, Gilbert Gubiangan, Ronnie Valdez, Aldrin Agod, Samuel Anog, Enrique Yaya-en, Florencio Pagala, Peter Mamawag, Gaspar Dusag, Vicente Tabanganay and Orodio Abuak.

Police said the blast took place at the back of the carnival.

They also ruled out the possibility of a terrorist attack, saying that the explosion may have been accidental.

“Merong nakakita na hindi sinadya, nalaglag siguro.. dahil kung talagang intentional yan bakit sa likod pa hindi sa harap,” said PO1 Alvius Cordero, spokesman of the Tabuk City Police.

Police are now trying to find out who carried the grenade to the site.
