Seven people have been reported missing after a small boat sank in a river in San Mateo and Antipolo towns in Rizal province Sunday afternoon.
ABS-CBN's Niko Baua reported that six of the missing persons were passengers of a boat that sank in Sitio Ibayo, Barangay Dulong Bayan Uno around 4 p.m. Sunday.
The boat was reportedly crossing the river when it was swept by the strong current. The boat has at least 11 passengers; five of them have been rescued.
At about the same time, a drunken man slipped into an overflowing creek in Sitio Lower Lucban, Barangay De la Paz in Antipolo.
Police and barangay officials launched rescue operations for the seven victims, but had to halt the effort around 6 p.m. because it was already dark.
Authorities believe the victims have already drowned and their bodies could have been swept into Marikina and Pasig rivers.
